Still to this day Cannibal Holocaust is one of the most controversial movies ever made!. It has a fearsome reputation and esily lives up to it. The mix of fake human violence, real animal violence and found footage gives it an air of realism that few films have ever come close too. There are so many found footage movies today, most of which are not exactly good, but this is where it really all began. Easily the best film in the small cannibal sub-genre, although the director also made Cannibal (AKA: Last Cannibal World) which is also very good.

Most people have trouble with the many instances of real animal death in it and it's not exactly entertaining to watch. It does fit in this movie well though, but for those who can't handle it there's also an aminal cruelty free version should you want to check this out. The fake human violence is really well done and some of the gore is almost too realistic, in fact it was so good that the director was arrested and had to order the actors to come to court to prove they were actually still alive. It sounds silly these days but it just goes to show how realistic it was and how most people brought it hook line and sinker!. There's also lots of full frontal male and female nudity and some nasty sexual violence which is still as shocking today as it was over four decades ago.

The stories and controveries surrounding this film are numerous and it's worth checking around online and reading about it. As a horror film though it's a classic of it's kind and I've always loved it!. The music is also amazing, the beautiful opening score when mixed with the brutal violence is wonderfully unnerving. Not an entry level film by any means, but if you're more of a hardened horror/gore fan then this is a must see!.
