On the streets of New York people start to mysterously vanish. An unlikely team of a journalist, a cop, a photographer and his girlfriend and a guy that runs a soup kitchen for the local bums team up and discover something horrific living in the sewers.

A great cast including Daniel Stern, John Heard, Christopher Curry and Kim Greist look to be having fun in this low budget monster movie. The creatures, known as C.H.U.D.s which stands for Cannibalistic Hunmanoid Underground Dwellers are cool looking creations. It's a shame they're not on screen more but when they do appear it's always fun. The acting, script and effects are also good and it moves along nicely, if a little too talky in places.

There's a brief cameo by John Goodman as a cop in a cafe which is fun. As said this is a low budget movie but they made the most of what they had to work with and managed to create a really interesting and fun monster movie that's become a bit of a cult classic over the years. If you haven't seen it yet, or just didn't bother as you thought it would just be another cheap load of 80s nonsense then give it a watch and I think you'll be pleasantly suprised.
