Creepshow 2 (1987)

Creepshow 2 only gives us three stories but was originally supposed to contain five. Two of them, Pinfall and Cat From Hell were scrapped due to lack of budget.

The first story called Old Chief Wood'nhead is about an elderly couple who run a small store in a rundown town. Outside the store is a large statue of an Cigar Store Indian (a figure used to advertise tobacco). When the couple are shot dead during a robbery the statue comes to life to take revenge on the killers. A simple story that's pretty good for what it is, if a little predictable. Sadly the revenge killings are not that gory which was a bit disappointing.

The Raft is the second tale and is about four collage kids who take a trip to a lake for some swimming and fun. Once there they swim out to a raft in the middle of the lake but become trapped on there by a strange, large floating oily lifeform. This is a fun one and gives us some pretty decent gore as the kids are attacked by the lifeform. It also has a nice little twist at the end.

The Hitch-hiker is the final story and is considered to be the best of the three. It's about a woman on her way home after sleeping with her lover whom she's cheating on her husband with. She accidently runs down and kills a hitchhiker who's trying to make his way to Dover. Realizing no one saw what happend she quickly drives off. As she heads home she is repeatedly attacked by the hitchhiker who becomes even more mangled and deformed with each encounter. As her car pulls up in her driveway her husband finds her body with the hitchhiker's Dover sign hanging from her. The gore effects here are really good and it's an excellent story. If you only want to watch one then this is it.

Overall Creepshow 2 is decent but a let down after the first. Only having three stories, one good and a couple of okay ones does hurt it a lot, especially as a lot of the humour that made the first film so enjoyable has been stripped away here. Overall I'd still recommend it as there's some fun to be had.
