Dead And Buried (1981)

A cop tries to figure out why multiple people are being murdered in graphic, violent ways in his small town only for them to seem perfectly normal a few days later.

Once banned here in the UK on VHS as a "video nasty" back in the early 80s this lesser known film is well worth checking out. It has a great cast, including an early role for Freddy Krueger himself Robert Englund, James Farentino, Melody Anderson and Jack Albertson in his final screen role before he sadly passed away.

It's full of creepy atmosphere and has a couple of genuinely good scares. The gore effects were created by Stan Winston and are great, especially a show stopping scene featuring some wince inducing eye violence. There's also a very good twist which I have to admit I genuinely didn't see coming when I first watched it.

The screenplay was partly written by Dan O'Bannon (Alien) and directed by Gary Sherman (Death Line & Vice Squad) and both do an excellent job!. The acting is great throughout too and it has a really good score that adds to it's creepiness.

I can highly recommend this underrated little gem if you haven't seen it before!. Of all the films that ended up on the video nasties list this is easily one of the better made ones and I still can't figure out what it was that caused it to end up on the list to begin with. I'm glad it did though as that means a lot more people sought it out after it was banned, and hopefully found a great little film that otherwise would have probably just gone unnoticed.
