Flesh For Frankenstein (1973)

AKA: Andy Warhol's Frankenstein

Classed as the goriest and Sexiest Frankenstein ever filmed, that pretty much sums up this wonderfully over the top classic!. The Baron and his assistant Otto collect body parts from various unwilling victims so he can piece together a perfect male for his already assembled female so they can reproduce and create a new master race.

Udo Keir hams it up as the Baron and is easily the star of the show!. The whole thing is pure camp and could even be classed as a very black comedy. Lots of male and female naked flesh is on full display and the gore is so over the top and plentyful that it's hard to find it offensive, although those with weaker stomachs may find it too much. Limbs and heads are cut off, all spewing forth fountains of blood and bodies are torn apart and the organs played with or squished.

The sets, costumes and locations are all amazing considering this was filmed on a low budget. I've seen multi million dollar movies look far worse than this. The acting ranges from great (Udo Keir chewing up the scnery) to mostly poor, and the dialogue is full of quotable lines. The gore effects are also surprisingly good considering the low budget and can verge on the disgusting at times.

Banned here in the UK back in the early 1980s as a video nasty, it became one of the infamous final 39, it's since been released fully uncut so newcomers can enjoy this film in all it's campy glory. I love it and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for something different from the old Frankenstein story. It even manages to teach us all a valuable lesson... "To know death, Otto, you have to fuck life in the gall bladder!".
