The space shuttle Churchill is exploring Halley's comet when the crew discover something hiding inside it. They investigate and find three humanoids that are suspended in strange pods and decide to bring them back to the ship. After contact with the shuttle is lost from earth another ship is sent to investigate. They find the shuttle burned and the crew dead but the humanoids unharmed. They bring them back to earth where it's discovered the humanoids are still alive. They awake and start draining the lifeforce of anyone they come into contact with in order to survive.

This strange mix of sci-fi and horror is highly enjoyable despite being pretty stupid. Filled with lots of cool looking visual effects and some really good pratical effects of bodies exploding into clouds of dust it can never be accused of being boring. It has a great cast but the star of the show is the stunning and mostly naked Mathilda May as the female alien / vampire. Throw in some zombie mayhem too and you've got an insane movie that will often have you thinking "WTF am I watching".

I've always liked this movie and often go back to give it another watch when I'm in the mood for some brainless fun to sit back with a beer and some pizza. Director Tobe Hooper certainly had better films under his belt but I'd recommend this one for those looking for something weird and different.
