Mosquito (1976)

(AKA: Bloodlust - Mosquito The Rapist)

A deaf and dumb man who suffers from severe childhood trauma works at an office where he's bullied by his co-workers. He collects dolls and has a crush on his next door neighbor, but as his trauma gets worse he decends into acts of violence, mutilation and necrophilia.

This strange German obscurity can be quite slow moving at times but contains enough nastiness to make it fit firmly onto a list of early disturbing movies. The acting is decent especially from lead Werner Pochath as The Man. There's some nice surreal touches and a decent score too. The gore effects look quite dated now but are still pretty gross if you don't like seeing eyeball abuse.

If you want to dip your toes into the necrophilia sub genre but ain't brave enough to take on Nekromantik or Aftermath yet then this would be a decent place to start. Definitely not for everyone and some will find it too strange or slow moving to be entertaining, but as an overlooked piece of disturbing cinema then I'd say give this one a try.
