Muzan-E (1999)

A young female reporter investigates the world of underground sex films. When she hears rumours of snuff films also being made she investigates further only to find herself becoming a target of the filmmakers.

This gross slice of Japanese nastiness is most definitely not for everyone. If you're even the slightest bit squeamish about menstral blood and vile things done with used tampons then you'll want to give this a very wide birth. Muzan-E is an infamous movie that gained it's nasty reputation on the bootleg VHS trading market and is still shocking those that stumble on it even today.

Overall it's not what you'd call a good movie and it's only for the hardened horror fans, but for me it has a place in my collection as along with Eat The Schoolgirl it was one of the first extreme Japanese movies I encountered. As said, the vile stuff involving mentral blood porn and things done with used tampons is gross, there's also some pretty nasty gore thrown in near the end too. The acting is what you'd expect from something like this, it's not great but I've seen a lot worse.

I can't and won't recommend this to any casual horror fan, but if you're looking for something dark, disturbing and nasty then give it a watch.
