An old folk tale about a killer who murders people who celebrate valentines day becomes true when local townsfolk who plan a valentines day celebration start turning up dead.

In the early 1980s there were countless slasher movies being produced and My Bloody Valentine is one of them, but, this one stands out slightly from most of the generic ones due to it being a little nastier, more mean spirited and quite a bit gorier. The killer wearing overalls and a gas mask is pretty intimidating as he stalks his victims in an old mine looking to remove their hearts. The mine itself makes for a fun location and provides some decent atmosphere. The acting is pretty good from all involved and it's well made. The gore effects are also decent with hearts being discovered ripped from bodies, murders by pick axe, impalings and a fun water pipe through the back of the head gag.

It may not be the best slasher you're going to see, but if you're getting tired of the endless teens at collage or campsite location ones then this is a nice change of pace. I've always had a soft spot for this one as it was one of the first I saw back in the old VHS days. Worth checking out as it holds up well, especially as it can now be seen in it's full, uncut glory which sadly wasn't the case when it first got released here in the UK.
