Night Of The Demon (1980)

An anthropologist takes some students on a field trip to investigate stories of a bigfoot who's been commiting violent murders. After encountering strange events, including a cult worshipping a bigfoot type creature they soon dicover the horrifying truth of what lives in the woods.

Banned as a video nasty here in the UK back in the early 1980s it stayed on the list untill the very end to become one of the infamous final 39. Thanks to its inclusion it's now managed to gain a bit of a cult following for lovers of bad movies. Yeah it's not very well made but it's gory and is actually quite fun, even if the actual bigfoot costume looks pretty dumb.

As for the gore, well we get arms ripped off, stabbings, entrails pulled out and used as a whip, inpalings on a fork and a tree branch, throat slashings, and in the movies most infamous scene we see a pissed off bigfoot rip off a guys dick after he pulls over on the side of the road to take a piss. Considering the low budget the gore effects are mostly pretty good. The acting and dialogue isn't great but you'll have seen a lot worse.

I've always enjoyed this one and often rented it out back in the early days of VHS. It has a certain charm to it and if it wasn't for it being branded a video nasty it would most likely have vanished into obscurity, but it's now on DVD and Blu-ray so loads more people can enjoy this little slice of low budget madness.
