Sella Turcica (2010)

A soldier returns home from war after being paralyzed but it soon becomes clear that there's something wrong with him that's far worse.

This is a Fred Vogel movie, but those going into it thinking they're going to get another August Underground will be sadly disappointed. This is quite slow moving until the final act where things get really nasty and messy. I do like this one though and Damien A. Maruscak is excellent in the lead as Bradley. Camille Keaton (I Spit On Your Grave) is also good as his mother Karmen. It was great seeing her back on screen after nearly 17 years. Sadly, most of the other actors are not that good and some of the dialogue was pretty bad.

This is a ToeTag movie though so you're here for the gore, and when it arrives it of course delivers. The effects are excellent and quite gross in places even if they do take a while to get going. For me this is another example of how much Fred Vogel improves as a filmmaker . We get a good story that maybe could have been better with some better actors and dialogue, but as it is this is a good movie with a good, creepy performance by Maruscak.

Sadly, at the time of creating this page this is the last ToeTag movie, but Fred has shown more improvement with the excellent The Final Interview. As for Sella Turcica I'd give this a recommendation.
