Shivers (1975)

(AKA: They Came From Within)

My rating 7/10

Genetically enginerred parasites infect a modern apartment block causing anyone who gets infected to become sexually agressive psychopaths.

This David Cronenberg movie makes for a great double bill with his 1977 movie Rabid. Both have the same look and feel to them and I love them both equally. The parasites themselves don't look great these days but they're not on screen much so it's fine. The cast do a good job and there's a surprising amount of good gore in it with some of it being quite gross. The subject matter means there's a very sleazy feel to it all and it can be quite skin-crawling in places. Add to all that a scattering of nudity and a downbeat ending and you have a pretty disturbing movie that you won't soon forget. Highly recommened.
