The Dead Hate The Living (2000)

A group of low budget filmmakers break into an abandoned hospital to film their movie. They stumble across a real dead body and decide to use it. They accidently bring it back to life and in doing so open a portal that unleashes a group of zombies that proceed to attack them all.

First the good. Some of the gore effects are actually quite decent considering the low budget, although some early CGI fire effects look dreadful today. There are a few quite decent atmospheric moments along the way though. The acting isn't great but I've seen a lot worse, sadly, the bad points far outweigh the good though and the biggest problem is the dialogue. From start to end it's almost a non stop barrage of 'homages' to other movies and directors like Lucio Fulci, Dario Argento, George Romero and others. The odd name drop is fine here and there but it's so relentless that it becomes tiresome after the first 10 mins. Without all that it would have been a fun little low budget effort. Overall it's worth a look, just don't play a drinking game where you take a drink everytime you hear a reference to another movie or you'll be passed out after the first 30 mins.
