Ash, his sister, his girlfriend and two of their friends travel to a cabin the woods. They find an old tape recorder in the cellar and when the tape is played back it unleashes a demon that possesses them one by one.

There's very little that can be said about The Evil Dead that hasn't been said hundreds of times already. It's a classic and one of the most popular horror movies ever made. Imaginative camerawork, lots of very fun gore and some great stop motion effects add to this rollercoaster of a movie that will entertain no matter how many times you watch it. The acting is fine, the script is fun and at times it can be genuinely scary. Its also full of atmosphere and tension as the camera creeps around outside and stalks those inside.

Released here in the UK in the cinema and on VHS at the same time it quickly found its way onto the video nasties list despite being a cut version. It was eventually dropped so therefore didn't become part of the final 39. I remember seeing it on it's opening night and it was a wild time. It was on a double bill with Videodrome... Ahh, the good old days!. Its also worth reading up on the trivia for this film to see what the cast and crew had to go through to get it made, it wasn't a fun time, but the results speak for themselves and this of course comes highly recommended!.
